2012 Heartland Triathlon
Father’s Day weekend began with a fantastic turnout for the TriKidz USAT Florida Regional Youth Championship. The welcome party during packet pickup at the Kenilworth Lodge was full of food and fun (sponsored by TD Bank, Subway and Darlene’s Sweets) as children were introduced to TD Bank’s mascot, TD. On Saturday morning, over 200 children ages 5-15 toed the starting line. The open-water swim in crystal clear Lake Jackson was fantastic as parents/friends were able to watch the entire swim portion of the triathlon from City Pier Beach.
Packet pickup for our Adult athletes was held at the beautiful Majestic Cove. Guests were treated to the live music of The Black Honkeys as well as assorted fruits, veggies, snacks, and beverages. Many an athlete began wondering…”Did I drive to Sebring for the 1st class entertainment or for a race?!”
On Father’s Day Sunday, we were treated to an exceptional morning of racing. USAT’s Florida Athlete development Talent ID series highlighted several of Florida’s future Olympic hopefuls. Athletes ages 11 thru 84 completed the race. Each registered adult participant received a cycling jersey, running cap, compression socks, and an ice cold Heartland Triathlon towel upon finishing. The food, beverages, and setting following the race were exceptional and supported some fantastic camaraderie among athletes, friends, and families.
